Operating vessels in an environmentally sound manner requires a balanced and sustainable approach to long-term economic growth. To this end, Maersk is constantly seeking solutions that help protect and sustain the environment.

Research and Development

The A.P. Moller - Maersk Group intends to maintain its commitment to environmental protection by careful application of the best technologies available. This includes the development of new technologies and vessel designs that will enable us to minimise the impact that our businesses have on the environments in which we operate.

Energy Saving and Emission Reduction

One of our biggest projects has been the development of energy saving strategies that aim to decrease consumption of fossil fuels and reduce emissions that may be harmful to the environment. For example, in the UK, Maersk Line have extended their use of rail where possible, resulting in a more environmentally friendly mode of transport.

Similarly, on a global level, the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group have implemented numerous measures that aim to control emissions. These include the introduction of waste heat recovery systems and combustion catalysts in our ships, as well as waste oil clarification decanters and environmentally-friendly fuel valve designs, all of which aim to reduce the emission of harmful gases.

Pollution Prevention

We are proud to announce that all of the Product Tankers in our fleet are double-hulled, which offers optimum protection to the environment against oil pollution in case of accidents at sea.
