The Maersk Company Sponsors 'Ship of the Year' Category in 2008 Lloyd's List Awards

London, 15 October. The Maersk Company has announced that it will be sponsoring the ‘Ship of the Year’ category in next year’s prestigious Lloyd’s List Awards.

The awards will take place again at the Natural History Museum in London. Maersk were among last year’s proud winners, having scooped the award for ‘Ship of the Year’ for Emma Maersk.

Emma Maersk, together with her 7 sister vessels, is the largest container vessel in the world. Capable of carrying 11,000 TEU, Emma Maersk is packed full of environmental and technological innovations, setting new standards for the industry. Environmentally friendly silicone paint covers the hull of the vessel below the waterline – reducing water resistance and cutting the vessel’s fuel consumption by 1,200 tonnes per year.

With its 14-cylinder Wärtsilä RT-flex diesel engine which develops 110,000 BHP, Emma Maersk is part of Maersk Line’s worldwide service and contributes to a global, competitive and flexible transport for Maersk Line’s customers.
