Maersk Kelso Joins UK fleet
London, 29 November 2007. The Maersk Company Ltd is pleased to announce the name-giving of Maersk Kelso, the latest edition to the UK fleet.
The name-giving took place on Thursday 29 November at Muelle de Adosado in the Port Nou Barcelona; where Carme San Miguel Ruibal honoured The Maersk Company by naming the newbuild Maersk Kelso. Also invited to the ceremony were a number of distinguished guests including Mr. Yoo, Managing Director, Hanjin Heavy Industries and Mr. Sam An, Contract Administration Team, Hanjin.
Named after a town in Scotland, Maersk Kelso is the latest vessel from The Maersk Company fleet to be named in line with the tradition of naming all of the vessels in her class after towns in the United Kingdom.
The town of Kelso was once described by Sir Walter Scott as "the most romantic if not the most beautiful place in Scotland" and it has water running through its very heart, sitting between the Tweed and the Teviot, so is a natural choice for the name of one of Maersk’s latest container vessels with her sleek construction and modern lines, which will sail the high seas for years to come, serving the ever-increasing demands of global trade.
Maersk Kelso is has an overall capacity of 6,200 TEU. She has joined Maersk Line’s fleet within the Asia/Europe route.
