Maersk Kinloss Latest Addition to UK fleet

London, 29 January 2008. The Maersk Company Ltd is pleased to announce the name-giving of Maersk Kinloss, the newest edition to the UK fleet.

The name-giving took place on Tuesday 29 January at the Busan shipyard of Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Co. Ltd. Ms. Karen Malia honoured The Maersk Company by naming the newbuild Maersk Kinloss. Ms. Karen Malia is the wife of Mr. Guy Warrington, Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy to the Republic of Korea in Seoul. Also attending the ceremony were a number of distinguished guests including Mr. Mark Malone, Managing Director, The Maersk Company - Shipping Division and Mr. H. S. Bong, Executive Vice-President Hanjin Heavy Industries.

Named after a town on the east coast of Scotland, Maersk Kinloss is the latest vessel from The Maersk Company fleet to be named in line with the tradition of naming all of the vessels in her class after towns in the United Kingdom.

Kinloss is around 160 miles from Edinburgh and just three miles from Findhorn Bay, once a principal Scottish seaport in the seventeenth century with vessels sailing regularly to and from all parts of the North Sea and as far as the Baltic. Kinloss is home to a large Royal Air Force base, housing Nimrod aircraft which operate in a variety of roles such as maritime reconnaissance, communications and surveillance support to ground forces. Kinloss is also the home for the UK Rescue Coordination Centre which is responsible for coordinating all rescue efforts within the UK and out into the Atlantic providing crucial support to naval and merchant vessels in distress off British shores.

Maersk Kinloss has an overall capacity of 6,200 TEU and will phase into Maersk Line’s fleet within the Asia/Europe route.
