Maersk Nominated for Lloyd's List Award
London 28 February, 2008. The Maersk Company Ltd is delighted to announce that the Maersk Training Centre in Newcastle has been chosen as a finalist in this year’s Lloyd’s List Awards in London. The nomination marks the second year running that Maersk has competed as a finalist at the awards ceremony, after winning Ship of the Year Award for Emma Maersk in 2007.
Since its opening in January 2007, the UK Maersk Training Centre in Newcastle has been a major success. It has trained more than 1900 students to date and offers some 22 courses, ranging from innovative specialist training to professional and personal development. A wide range of the courses focus on safety and security, including crisis training; such as survival and psychological first aid in the event of piracy attack. Maritime skills based courses, giving participants experience of all aspects of ship handling, are also available.
Nominated for the training award, the category acknowledges the achievements of organisations that develop and enhance the skills of professionals within the shipping industry. Eligible companies include training providers, educational institutions or companies that have shown a demonstrable commitment to training. The nomination will be assessed on the content of training plans and facilities, delivery of training, and its value both to the trainee and the industry.
The Lloyd's List Awards in London have established themselves over recent years as the pre-eminent awards for the global maritime industry and as a benchmark for excellence, identifying and rewarding performance and innovation. Nominations are accepted for eight overall categories, including the Clean Seas Award, Ship Financier of the Year, Innovation Award and Newsmaker of the Year. This year the event will be held at the world-famous Natural History Museum on Wednesday 2nd April 2008.
